About That Time a Business Ghosted Me
It was all just…very weird
So in case you hadn’t heard, companies are into ghosting now. If they don’t want to pursue a candidate, they’ll just stop contacting that candidate. No calls. No emails. Nothing. And to be fair, it goes the other way, too, with candidates bailing on interested hiring managers.
A couple of months ago, I got to experience this (unfortunately) for myself. An AI company reached out to me and said they’d seen some of my work online. They wanted to know if I could do some pieces for them. I’ll stress here again, I did not reach out to them. They reached out to me.
We sent a few emails back and forth and set up a Zoom meeting to chat. Nothing too out of the ordinary. The interview seemed to go well. The call closed with the CEO telling me he was excited to bring me on, and I was more than thrilled with what they offered in pay, because it was higher than what I’d asked for. The plan was to send them a contract after the meeting, which I did.
Then…
Silence.
I understand leaders are busy people. So I followed up.
Silence.
I sent another message.
It quickly became clear to me that I was not going to work with the company.
